National Safe Kids Week, April 26 to May 4, 2008

As a nation, we have reduced the unintentional injury death rate for children 14 and under by 45 percent since 1987.

But there is some bad news as well: accidental injuries remain the number one cause of death for children ages one to 14, even though many of these deaths can be prevented.

The legislation provides incentives for states to adopt comprehensive pool safety laws that will protect children from life-threatening injuries and horrible deaths from dangerous pool & spa drains.
